Jeff's Camp at a Glance
A Home for Heroes
Named for late United States Army Veteran and helicopter Crew Chief, Jeffrey Allen Poissant (1961-2017), Jeffs Camp is being designed as a place where former US Service personnel can turn to when in need. Jeff owned 36 acres of land in Barnagat, New Jersey and shortly before his passing asked his partner of 31 years, Martin Weber to use that land in service of veterans. Jeffs Camp exists to carry out that legacy.
It’s a not-for-profit corporation organized to exclusively help veterans and their families live their lives with dignity and honor. The site is being designed to serve as transitional housing for at-risk veterans and to provide them a comprehensive pathway into self-sufficiency. Plans are for the property to one day provide temporary housing and offices for third parties that provide education, vocational training, job placement, and drug and mental health counseling.
We're at critical juncture in realizing this vision. We've successfully completed the certified initial development site plans and garnered support from Barnegat Township. However, challenges with the Pinelands Commission have emerged, necessitating a focus on fundraising. The anticipated legal fees alone are estimated at $60-70k, for example, and the generosity of our community will directly influence whether we can move forward with the Rt. 72 project or if we must explore alternative paths. Fundraising is not just a means to an end; it is a vital component of our mission, reflecting the collective commitment to honor Jeff's legacy by supporting veterans and their families in the most effective way possible.
